Viruses, worms, trojans and other malware are now an everyday occurrence in the connected world. They can spread quickly across networks such as the Internet, causing considerable damage in the process. It is very important that you protect your computer(s) against these infections, as failure to do so can result in the compromise of your banking details and credit/debit card information as well as the loss of your photographs, music, essays, correspondence etc.
We strongly recommend that you take steps to protect your computer(s), including backing up data, installing up-to-date anti-virus software and keeping the operating system and other vulnerable software up to date. Please see the Welcome to IT pages for further information.
If you don't have up-to-date anti-virus software installed, members of Oxford University can download and install Sophos Anti-Virus free of charge from the Computing Services. Please refer to the table below for downloads and instructions for installing Sophos clients for various operating systems. Registered IT Support Staff have access to all Sophos software covered by the University site licence, including the Endpoint Security and Email Security suites; links to downloads and further information are also given in the table below.
